The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is the first taste of competition that students get in the Indian education system. It is a one-of-a-kind scholarship program, which rewards exceptional students who display an impressive amount of talent, skill, and aptitude. With examinations and Olympiads forming a critical part of the Indian education system, the NTSE does a good job of providing students with a cornerstone towards preparing for other competitive examinations.

That’s not to say that the NTSE is any less competitive! There are a plethora of students competing for the same recognition, and only a chosen few are lucky enough to secure it. Crunch time ensues in the preparation stages for the NTSE, with students frantically searching for methods, tips, and books to help them crack the exam. Worry not, we are here to help you achieve what you want! Read on to find out how to crack the NTSE 2020 Stages 1 and 2.

Making it through NTSE 2020 Stage 1

The syllabus of the NTSE part 1 revolves around the concepts studied in class 9 and 10. Class 9 topics pose a problem for students since they tend to forget what they study earlier. No worries, however, we are here with some tried and tested tips to help you crack stage 1 of the NTSE 2020.

  • Good quality notes are a must

In October, when there is little to no time for studying, as the exam approaches, it is a must to possess good quality notes to revise from. By the end of September, you should have a notebook or register dedicated to the stage 1 syllabus, so that you don’t have to run around at the last minute and try to study from different books at the same time. Preparation phase should consist of note making, understanding concepts, and practice- a LOT of practice.

  • Make use of test series

Subscribing to an all India test series for NTSE makes sense for Stage 1 that is going to be conducted soon on November 3, 4 and 17, 2019. Assessing performance with respect to the competition, managing time, and identifying your weak and strong areas can take you a long way with regards to the stage 1 exam. Rigorous analysis of your performance in the test series is also a must.

  • Focus on class 9 concepts

Since more than a year passes after class 9 when the NTSE rolls around, students tend to forget the concepts that they have been taught earlier. The best way to navigate here would be to plan your NTSE preparation from class 9 itself, and maintain a notes register right from class 9, as stated above. Remember, a sound strategy is half the battle won! You can take help of recorded video lectures by Aakash iTutor to quickly revise the concepts taught in Class 9.

Getting to NTSE 2020 Stage 2

NTSE Stage II is highly competitive as only the best minds are selected to compete at this level. Testing mental, language and scholastic aptitude of the students, it calls for the timely beginning of NTSE preparation process. Here are some tips on how to make it through NTSE Stage 2 successfully:

  • Plan your time management and distribution

For each section of the exam, devote your time accordingly. The best way to figure out how much time to devote to each concept is by taking mock tests and previous year tests. These present you with an almost exam-like environment and can assist you in identifying your strengths and weaknesses.

  • Important chapters and identifying them

Since the NTSE Stage 2 syllabus is so vast, it makes sense to identify important concepts and chapters from the syllabus and tackle those first. In this way, you make sure that you cover as much of the syllabus as you can, and are also able to tackle the difficult questions.

  • Don’t let yourself slack, personally

Focusing on personal alignment and inculcating a positive attitude can result in better exam performance. Be sure to stay on a healthy diet and sleep schedule, be positive, and avoid any and all distractions in the buildup to the test.

Here’s hoping you crack the NTSE stage 1 and 2 with flying colours and win a scholarship!

All the best!
