JEE Main 2021 exam dates, eligibility criteria, syllabus and other detailed have been announced by NTA. Candidates who dream to become an engineer by studying from the top colleges in India can now apply for this engineering entrance exam.

Engineering has always been one of the prominent career choices for millions of students in India. They dedicate their two years of higher studies to science in order to get a precious seat in the prestigious engineering colleges across the country. To do so, they work hard consistently and prepare for one of the toughest entrance examinations – Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) that comprehensively tests their subject understanding and aptitude.

What is the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)?

Joint Entrance Examination, or commonly known as JEE, is the most renowned engineering entrance examination of the country. It is applicable for admissions in National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and various other government-funded national or central institutes (CFTIs). It used to be managed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) until a new exam conducting body, National Testing Agency (NTA) was formulated in the year 2018. JEE Main 2019 was the first entrance examination conducted by the NTA.

JEE Main at a Glance

JEE is conducted in two stages – JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is the initial entrance examination that is applicable for direct admission in various CFTIs and NITs. Furthermore, it is also an eligibility test for the JEE Advanced. Candidates who qualify JEE Main 2021 can only appear for JEE Advanced 2021 to enter into the next round of admission process.

JEE Main 2021

JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in four sessions in February, March, April and May. The online application process for JEE Main 2021 will start from December 16, 2020 and forms will be made available only in the online mode. The last date to fill and submit the application form is 16 January, 2021.

JEE Main 2021 Application Form

JEE Main 2021 application forms for the February exam session will be released on 16 December, 2020.  The forms would be made available online (only) and no offline forms would be accepted. Candidates can visit the official website of JEE and can fill their forms online. Candidates must register and submit their application forms before 16 January, 2021. Candidates need to fill the same form for Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Step 1: Registration
Candidates need to register on the official website by filling personal details like name, gender, date of birth, ID card details etc.
Step 2- Fill JEE Main 2021 Application Form

  • In this step, candidates need to fill exam related details like the Paper they want to appear for, examination centre choice, preferred language etc.
  • You also need to generate a password at this stage, which you will require to login into your account later

Step 3: Uploading the documents
Next step is to upload the documents in the prescribed size and format
Step 4: Pay JEE Main Application Fee
To complete the application process for JEE Main 2021, you need to pay the prescribed application fee
Step 5: Download the form
Check all the details, submit the form and take a printout of the same

Aadhaar Provision: Aadhaar card is one of the mandatory documents required for filling the JEE Main 2021 application form. It helps the NTA to cross-check details filled in by the candidate. Candidates are required to furnish details like Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, and gender in the application form. Thus, students who don’t have an Aadhaar card yet are suggested to apply for the same in order to sit for the JEE exam. (Exceptions for applicants from Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Assam)

Candidates must have a working Email ID and contact number in order to apply for the exam. They are also required to upload recent passport size photographs, their signature and the signature of their parents or guardians.

  1. Online payments can be made with a debit card, credit card or net banking. The application fee is non-refundable.

JEE Main 2021 Exam Dates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official notification about JEE Main 2021 important dates according to which the application process will start from 16 December, 2020. Students can plan their preparations according to the schedule given below:

JEE Main 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Looking at the current scenario, The National Testing Agency (NTA) has given some relaxation in JEE Main 2021 eligibility criteria. From the total number of attempts to the age limit and percentage in class 12, there is relaxation in every category. Thus, candidates appearing for JEE Main 2021 should check the criteria carefully before filling the application form (failing to match the same makes the form subject to rejection). Here are some important criteria guidelines:

Academic Criteria

  1. Candidates must have passed 10+2 board examination in the year 2019, 2020 or 2021.
  2. Candidates appearing for 10+2 board examinations in 2021 are also eligible for JEE Main 2021.
  3. For B. Tech/BE: Candidates must have studied Mathematics, Physics along with any one subject from Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or technical vocational subjects in class 12th
  4. For B.Arch./Planning: Candidates must have studied Mathematics in class 12th

Age and Other Criteria

  1. According to the latest NTA guidelines, there is no set age limit for applicants.

JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2021 exam pattern is set exclusively by the National Test Agency. The pattern is as follows:

Mode of Examinations: Online, Computer Based Test (CBT)

Papers in Examination: Paper 1 for B. Tech/ B.E and Paper 2 for B. Arch./B. Planning

Duration of the Exam: 3 hours

Marking Scheme: 4 marks for correct answer  and 1 negative mark for wrong attempt

Language: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu

Type of Questions: Objective (MCQ), Drawing test of paper 2 will be subjective

Each Subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates have to attempt any five questions out of 10. There will be no negative marking for Section B.

JEE Main 2021 syllabus

JEE Main 2021 syllabus is majorly based on 3 core subjects, i.e. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. It is followed by aptitude questions that test a candidate’s general awareness. JEE Advanced at a Glance

Candidates ranking in the top 245,000 in Paper 1 of JEE Main qualify to appear in JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is an advance level entrance examination which is exclusively conducted for admissions in the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country. It is organized by one of the IITs each year. JEE 2019 was organized by IIT Roorkee.

JEE Advanced 2021 Exam Dates

JEE Advanced is expected to take place in the month of May 2020 after the declaration of JEE Main 2021 results. However, exact JEE Advanced 2021 dates are yet to be finalized by NTA.

Which IIT will conduct JEE Advanced 2020?

Information about which IIT will be conducting the JEE 2021 Advanced examination will be confirmed by NTA through an official notification.

JEE Advanced 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants ranking in the top 245,000 in the JEE Main 2020 will be eligible for appearing in the JEE Advanced 2021 examination. Here are some other important guidelines:

  1. Minimum percentage requirement in 10+2 or equivalent examination:
  • General and OBC – 75%
  • SC/ST/PwD: 65%
  1. Applicants can appear twice for JEE Advanced in consecutive years.
  2. If a candidate appeared for JEE Advance 2020, then he/she is also eligible for appearing in the JEE Advanced 2021 examination. However, if any student has cancelled the seat in any of the IITs in the year 2020 after admission, then he/she will not be eligible to sit for the JEE Advanced 2021 examination.

JEE Advanced 2021 Application Form

JEE Advanced 2021 application forms are expected to be made available in the initial weeks of May. The respective application forms will be made available only via online mode. Applicants are required to register with a working e-mail ID and mobile number in order to get login credentials. Furthermore, unlike the JEE Main application form, the JEE Advanced application form doesn’t allow further corrections.

Here is the list of required documents that applicants are required to upload (scanned copies) for completing the application form. :

  • Birth certificate (or class 10th certificate if the date of birth is mentioned)
  • Class 12th certificate (for applicants clearing board examination in 2020)
  • A gazette notification (with regard to changed name) if the name is different on the class 10th certificate
  • Certificates (FORM-GEN-EWS and FORM-OBC-NCL) if the applicant belongs to GEN-EWS or OBC-NCL categories respectively
  • Scanned recent photographs

What is the marking scheme for JEE Main 2020?

For every correct answer, the candidate is awarded with 04 marks.
For every incorrect answer, 01 marks is deducted as negative marking.
No marks are deducted or awarded in case the question is unanswered.

What is the minimum age limit to appear in the IIT-JEE?

The minimum age limit to appear in the exam is 17 years and the applicant should be more than 24 years i.e. they should be born on October 1993 or later. Applicants belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories are benefitted with 5 years of age relaxation.

Will the JEE Main be held twice by 2020 onwards?

Yes. JEE Main will be now conducted twice every year in the months of January and April in online CBT mode.

What is the eligibility criteria of JEE 2020?

    good evening, im currently studying in class 12 with PCMB as my subjects.
    I wanted to pursue biotechnology in the future, so I wanted to enquire about the b.tech exam of JEE.
    also I wanted to ask if I can give two exams -one with the subjects physics chem n maths n another one in with phy chem n bio or can I give JEE exam with the subjects physics chem maths n bio

      Hello Prathama, JEE syllabus covers topics from Physics, Chemistry and Math and you need to clear these exams in class 12 to be eligible for JEE. If you want to appear for an exam with Physics, Chemistry and Bio, you need to apply for NEET.
