The JEE Main is indeed one of the most competitive examinations in India. Held as a qualifying examination for admission to several BE/B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Plan courses offered by some top institutes throughout the country, the JEE is held by the National Testing Agency since 2019. There are separate examinations held for admissions to BE/B.Tech and B.Arch/B.Plan, and the exam is also held twice a year now as opposed to only once, prior to 2019.
JEE Main syllabus 2020
The JEE Main syllabus 2020 has been officially released by NTA. As per the notification released by the exam conducting body, the question paper will comprise of questions from physics, chemistry, mathematics, aptitude, and architecture. You can find out about the entire JEE Main 2020 syllabus in the following sections.
The syllabus for the BE/B.Tech paper
The JEE Main syllabus for the BE/B.Tech exam consists of three subjects, which are physics, chemistry, and mathematics. NCERT book topics are mentioned as official topics in the JEE Main syllabus, hence candidates may consult these books to score well in the exam. Some important concepts and topics from each subject for JEE Main 2020 syllabus are given below-
- Physics Syllabus
Across class 11 and class 12 physics syllabus, there lies a vast range of topics that are asked in the JEE Main examination for the BE/B.Tech admissions. These include kinematics, laws of motion, work power and energy, rotational motion, units and measurements, oscillations and waves, properties of solids and liquids, thermodynamics, electrostatics, kinetic theory of gases, communication systems, atoms and nuclei, dual nature of matter and radiation, electronic devices, optics, electromagnetic waves, electromagnetic induction and alternating currents, current electricity, and magnetic effects of current.
- Chemistry Syllabus
It forms a very crucial part of the JEE Main syllabus, as most of the chemistry questions asked are based on the information provided in the NCERT books themselves. This is why the NCERT books are considered as the bible for those preparing for the JEE Main.
Some important topics covered in JEE Main Chemistry Syllabus include-
- Physical chemistry- basic concepts in chemistry, states of matter, atomic structure, solutions, redox reactions and electrochemistry, chemical bonding and molecular structure, thermodynamics, equilibrium, kinetics, and surface chemistry.
- Inorganic chemistry- hydrogen, p-block elements, s-block elements, principles and process of isolation of metals, d and f-block elements, environmental chemistry, classification of elements and periodicity of properties.
- Organic chemistry- basic principles of organic chemistry, organic compounds containing halogens, organic compounds containing nitrogen, purification and characterization of organic compounds, hydrocarbons, polymers, organic compounds containing oxygen, biomolecules, principles related to practical chemistry, and chemistry in everyday life.
- Mathematics Syllabus
Arguably the toughest subject out of the three, here are the important topics in the mathematics syllabus-
Sets, relations and functions, matrices and determinants, permutations and combinations, differential equations, complex numbers and quadratic equations, binomial theorem, principle of mathematical induction, limits, sequence and series, integral calculus, continuity and differentiability, vector algebra, statistics and probability, coordinate geometry, three-dimensional geometry, mathematical reasoning, and trigonometry.
