What is JIPMER?
The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry is one of the most prominent and finest medical colleges in the country. Initially inaugurated in the year 1964, it became an institution of national importance in the year 2008 by an act of the Parliament. It functions under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Government of India, and is one of the premier medical institutional bodies in the country.
The institute offers a variety of courses ranging from undergraduate programs to super speciality and sub-speciality courses. It functions over the model of providing free speciality healthcare while maintaining superior quality and safety. The institute conducts an annual entrance examination, JIPMER MBBS to provide admissions to around 200 aspiring medical students.

JIPMER Entrance Examination 2020
Conducted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, JIPMER 2020 is one of the most important medical entrance examinations in the country. Apart from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), it is the only medical entrance test that provides students admission into the undergraduate medical MBBS degree programme.
The institute offers admissions for around 200 seats that include 150 seats in the Puducherry campus and 50 in the Karaikal campus. According to reports, almost 1.5 to 2 lakh applicants appear for the examination each year which makes it one of the most competitive entrance examinations in the country. Candidates who clear the entrance examination by obtaining minimum cut-off marks need to further sit for its counselling sessions.

JIPMER 2020 Eligibility Criteria
JIPMER 2020 medical entrance examination is supervised and conducted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry. It follows distinct eligibility criteria that a candidate is required to fulfil in order to appear for the examination.
Nationality Criteria
- All Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) are eligible.
- OCIs and Non-residential Indians (NRIs) are required to furnish an eligibility certificate issued by Association of Indian University, New Delhi
- Foreign national candidates are also eligible to apply for the entrance examination. However, they are required to take permission from the Medical Council of India (MCI) before applying.
Age Criteria
- The candidate must be at least 17 years old as on 31st December 2020.
- There is no age relaxation for candidates applying via reservation.
- There is no set upper age limit for JIPMER.
Educational Qualifications
- Applicant must have passed 10+2 level exam (or equivalent examination) from a recognized board or university.
- The applicant must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Biology/Biotechnology and Chemistry as mandatory subjects and English as an elective subject.
- The candidate (UR and general category) must have scored an aggregate of at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology. For SC/ST/OBC and other reserved categories, the respective aggregate should be minimum 40%. For OPH-general candidates, it should be at least 45%.
- Candidates appearing for 10+2 examination in 2020 are also eligible to appear for the examination.
JIPMER 2020 Application Form
The application form for JIPMER 2020 entrance examination is expected to be released in the 2nd week of March 2020. As per the new rules, the forms will be available on the JIPMER official website in online mode only and no offline forms will be made available by the institution on any portal and no hard copies will be accepted.
Candidates need to provide all the authentic details with regards to their education, personal information, and contact in the application form. Students are also required to upload scanned copies of their recent passport size photographs and self-signatures in the prescribed format. It is to be noted that there is no window for form correction and the filled up information will be considered as final. Thus, students should fill the details in the application form carefully before the last date i.e. 2nd week of April 2020 (tentative).

JIPMER 2020 Examination Pattern
JIPMER medical entrance examination is expected to be held in the 2nd week of June, probably after the NEET and AIIMS entrance tests. It will be a 2 hour 30 minutes computer-based online test that will be commenced in two shifts, i.e. one in the morning and second in the afternoon. It is to be noted that the examination will be conducted in English medium only.
